Our Second Blog Associate

This is Cathy Rust. She is a Social Media Consultant and a very green person. Her blog as the unusual handle of A Mom’s Guide To Green Building Materials. This makes sense because she is (I assume) a mom and she is also a LEEDS Certified consultant which means that she is the person you call when you want to start greening your house from structural point of view. Or if you want to build yourself a green house from the ground up.

Cathy’s blog is filled with all kinds of interesting stuff and she has agreed to let us pull articles from it that we think would be of interest to our visitors (that would be you).

So have a look at Cathy’s blog, it’s full of good green info. And frankly, you can never have enough good green info.

Bill Gates Pouring Billions Into The Nuke Biz. Scary.

Posted: March 23rd, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Green News Links | No Comments »

I guess like Bill Gates as much as the next guy. I mean the guy is giving away money left and right to worthy causes. Small price to pay for unleashing Windows on a zillion or so unsuspecting computer users. (said the Mac Guy).

But this latest venture has me a bit puzzled. He’s apparently entering into a deal with Toshiba to build small nukes, which are evidently all the rage these days in right wing energy circles. And it looks like he’s going to be dishing over about $7 Billion smackers to the cause. I don’t know about you, but when I found out about that all I could think of was what an injection of $7 Billion could do  for an industry that doesn’t produce radioactive waste. Like solar, or wind or geothermal.

Anyway, I thought I’d post this link, even if only to inform you of what the world’s richest nerd is throwing his money and his not inconsiderable influence behind these days. You’ll probably be hearing more about it in the days to come. Good luck, Bill. Let’s hope this doesn’t melt down in your face. http://tinyurl.com/yzxeksa

The Dragons Are Breathing Green Fire

I just got an email from Justine Luckowicz, an Associate Producer of The Dragon’s Den, a very popular CBC show. Here’s what she had to say.

This season, DRAGONS’ DEN is teaming up with Frito Lay Canada’s SunChips® to look for Canada’s best Greenvention™. Eco-preneurs can pitch their green inventions at local auditions or online until Thursday, April 22 (Earth Day), for a chance to win $100,000. With its launch of the world’s first 100% compostable chip bag of its kind, the SunChips brand is asking Canadians “What’s your Greenvention™”?

Princeton Green — Still Ironing Out The Kinks

Posted: March 17th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Our Green Directory | No Comments »

Terry hipped me to this new site called Princeton Green. So I went and had a look. There are a little too many bells and whistles on this site for my tastes, but they certainly seem to be on the right path.

Their little amphibian mascot is on the left.

Here’s how they describe themselves. It’s a little hoity toity and businessspeaky but you get the message.

“We are an interconnected network of entrepreneurs working collaboratively to integrate the latest innovative technologies regarding energy conservation and renewable energy generation.  We continually research the market to bring forth the best solutions for our clients.

Through validated research, we recommend financially viable ways for our clients to reduce their dependencies on fossil fuels and embrace alternative clean energy technologies.  We align ourselves with research institutions to validate the technologies we represent.”

We think this is a site that you should bookmark and check back with frequently to watch them grow.
